Göteborg and Malmö open the new Allsvenskan season with a draw

The stage was perfectly set for the 2017 season opener. Over 32.000 visitors came to Nya Ullevi and made this classic rivalry match even more buzzing.

IFK were willingly to show their critics that they are capable to get a top finish this season and had a flying start to the new campaign.

Inside two minutes Sören Rieks had a clear chance to put Blåvitt ahead after a moment of madness in Malmö’s defence, but he failed to beat Johan Wiland.

Nevertheless, only 6 minutes later the first goal of the new season came drizzling in. After a Mads Albaek corner centerforward Mikael Boman put a strong header to the far post to give IFK the lead and let Ullevi errupt.

Meanwhile the reigning champions from Skåne had a poor start to the match and the new season, but came better into the game after 30 minutes and stroke back after a corner as well. Pawel Cibicki, who returned from his loan spell at Jönköpings Södra, had an easy job to do after Oscar Lewicki got his head onto a Magnus Wolff Eikrem corner kick.

Cibicki also had two other major chances to put his name on the scoreboard yet again in the first half but was denied by 18-year old youngster Pontus Dahlberg, who has won the race for the new number 1 at IFK.

The second half didn’t bring that much of footballing action, at least there was Tobias Sana. Again you could say. The former IFK man already had quite an incident during Malmö’s last visit at Göteborg, when throwing a corner flag into the crowd after being provoked by his the fans that once supported him.

This time he seemed a little upset after being substitued in the 72. minute, destroying the plexiglas of the away bench with his ellbow.
