On Matchday 2 of the domestic cup UMF Njardvik celebrated their first win in the competition over ÍA Akranes in a dramatic fashion. Theódor Gudni Halldórsson brought the hosts 1:0 up before the half-hour, Alexander Már Thorlaksson equalized for his team in the second half and blew the horn for twelve turbulent minutes.
Just 240 seconds later Bergthór Ingi Smárason brought Njardvik back in front. This time the lead only lasted for eight minutes, then Steinar Thorsteinsson netted the second for Akranes.
In stoppage time it was finally time for Arnór Björnsson to shine. With his goal in the 92nd minute the defender sealed the first three points in the 2018 cup season for his colours. Both teams are even on points now while Akranes still sits top of Group 1 thanks to their better goal difference.
